7. General Safety Notes

•

CAUTION:

We recommend using the E-bike starting only at the

  age of 14.

•

DANGER:

Become familiar with the operation and the special riding

behaviour of the E-bike away from road traffic first. Specifically

practice starting, braking and taking narrow bends. The E-bike

has a longer braking distance than a bicycle because of its higher

  dead weight.

•

DANGER:

Always switch on the lighting in bad visibility conditions!

Consider that not only you will see better when the lighting is on,

but that other road users will be able to see you better as well.

• CAUTION:

According to the law, you are not obligated to wear

a helmet. However, do wear a bicycle helmet for your own safety

  to avoid head injury!

•

DANGER:

Prefer very visible clothing with light colours and reflection

stripes so that other road users can see you better and sooner.

•

CAUTION:

The E-Bike has turning and movable pats. Wrong clothing,

improper handling or lack of attention leads to danger of injury.

  - Wear close-fitting trousers. Use cycle clips if necessary.

  - Make sure that clothes that hang down cannot get into the spikes,

e.g. in case of scarves or cords.

  - Wear slip-proof shoes with a stiff sole that provide enough support

    to the foot.

•

WARNING:

Always comply with the national statutory provisions

and traffic rules of the respective country where you are using

the E-Bike. In Germany, these provisions are specified in StVZO

  and StVO.

•

DANGER:

According to StVO, every road user must behave in

a manner that will not endanger, harm, harass or impair another

any more than unavoidable under the circumstances. Therefore,

always ride foresightedly and considerately. Take other road users

  into consideration.

• WARNING:

You must only ride your E-Bike on public roads and

paths when it has the equipment legally required in your country.

In Germany, these requirements are specified in road traffic licensing

  regulation (Straßenverkehrs-Zulassungs-Ordnung; StVZO).

According to the StVZO, a bicycle/E-Bike in Germany requires:

  - two brakes that work independently of each other,

  - a clearly audible bell,

  - a functional front headlight and a tail light,

  - spoke reflectors or reflecting side stripes on the rim or tyres,

  - pedal reflectors,

  - a white reflector facing forwards (if not integrated in the headlights),

  - two red reflectors facing backwards

    (one of them a large-surface Z-reflector).

Observe that the rechargeable battery supplies the lighting with power

and therefore it must be inserted and also charged for every ride.

•

DANGER:

Technical changes must only be made according to

the StVZO. This specifically applies to safety-relevant parts, such

as the frame, fork, handlebar, stem, saddle, seat post, luggage carrier,

all brake components (specifically brake lever & brake linings),

lights, foot pedal, wheels, trailer couplings, tyres and tubes.

Danger of breakage, damage and accidents!

•

CAUTION:

Keep the operating instructions with care and pass

them on when selling or giving away the E-bike.

8. Lighting

•

DANGER:

Check on every ride with the lighting switched on that

the light beam is set correctly. It must in no case be too high, since

you may then blind other road users.

•

DANGER:

The rechargeable battery must be used in bad visibility,

in twilight and darkness. Check that the battery is sufficiently charged.

•

DANGER:

Always switch on the lighting in bad visibility conditions!

Consider that not only you will see better when the lighting is on,

but that other road users will be able to see you better as well.

9. BRAKES

•

DANGER:

Safe handling of brakes is essential for your safety when

cycling. Therefore, become familiar with the brakes of your E-Bike

  before your first ride.

•

DANGER:

The brake performance depends on many factors. It

may reduce considerably, e.g. due to the ground properties (gravel

paths, loose chippings, etc.), additional payload, downhill rides

or detriment weather. Wet ground may cause the brake distance

to be approx. 60% longer than on dry ground. Therefore adjust

your cycling behaviour accordingly. Ride more slowly and with

  particular care.

•

DANGER:

Check the brakes for function before every ride. Incorrectly

set or defectively repaired brakes may cause reduced brake output

or even complete failure of the brakes.

•

DANGER:

Avoid sudden and strong braking to avoid slipping or

  blocking of the wheels.

•

DANGER:

Have maintenance work and repairs on the brakes

performed only by sufficiently qualified specialists.

• DANGER:

Replace brake components only with genuine parts,

since only this can ensure proper function.
